Varsity Warrior Basketball Teams Sweep Council II-3A Finals
The OLPH 8th grade basketball teams swept the Council II-3A basketball championships this past Sunday, March 4, at Loyola Academy.
The OLPH 8th Grade Boys White team defeated St. Francis Xavier (Wilmette) by a score of 35-30 in the Ignatius Division Championship. This was the boys’ second title in three years, under head coach, Joe Daly.
The OLPH 8th Grade Girls’ Blue team defeated St. Joan of Arc (Evanston) in an overtime thriller, 26-24 in the Regina Division Championship. This was the girls’ third consecutive championship, and first under Coaches Tony Belmont, Kerry Durham, and Rene Dombrowski.
Entering the playoffs as the #1 seed, the OLPH 8th Grade Boys Blue team defeated Faith, Hope & Charity (Winnetka) by a score of 49-29. Coaches Jack Anton and Bill Yacullo have now led the their team to four league championships during their tenure.
